Yes, I think that it should be legalized. People that is in terrible pain such as myself. It can't be any worse then me taking all that oxyicotion (sp) I was taking 210 mgm a day. I have heard that marijuana would help me better. Their are alot of people out there that is in terrible pain and suffering, so help us and legalize it !!

It doesn't look like you have any comments yet!
Is this because everyone is afraid to type about this as it is against the law?
I for one think it should be legal. It helps with pain as well as stress. The tobacco farmers that no longer get to grow their crops could rebuild with marijiuana. The prisons would be less crowded with non-violent people.

WOW!! I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH A BIASED REPORT IN MY LIFE !! Isn't Dr. Snyderman suposed to be conducting a non biased report and discussion ? Having 2 people on the panel that are in agreement and only 1 with the opposing position? Also the Doctor that was for legalization seemed to have some type of delay on his microphone so by the time he tried to answer..someone else had butted in,
generally it was Nancy Snyderman!!

I am always irritated when reporters would rather hear themselves talk than the experts they have gathered.....

I have always liked listening to Dr. Snyderman when I have seen her on talk shows...but boy she doesn't belong in this arena....it was a horrible report !

Please God...bring back the Walter Conkrite type of newsman.

I believe that marijuana should legalized and taxed. It would add thousands to the state till and help take out the illegal activities caused by marijuana being illegal.

I think it should be legal. A lopt of benefits canc ome from this as I have done numerous research papers on this topic and it's benefits.
1. The overcrowded prisons wouldn't be so overcrowded for non violent offenses.
2. The government would be able to tax it and regulate it so it meets certain guidelines just like alcohol and tobacco, thus making more money for other more important thinga(put a lot of drug dealers and drug trafficking out of busines)

Just a few of the benefits that I have come across.

YES,,,I Beieve it should be legalized. I would rather be on the roads with people who have smoked than drank alcohol, any day of the year.

I believe it should be legalized for medicinal purposes only. I have severe chronic pain that is only alleviated by the opiods, which, for me have terrible side effects. I think marijuana would probably have less side effects. I would at least like the opportunity to try it.

I think that marijuana should be legalized everywhere, just like it is here in the state of Massachusetts! If anyone in MA is found with less than an oz. of pot on them, it is no longer a crime! It is only punishable by a $100 fine! No more court dates, no more jail time, or probation and/or parole. Do you know how much of the jail and court system is freed up in MA, now that pot has been legalized here? It's crazy! But I think it's great!

yes it needs to be for everyone whom could be relived from pain and it works great for depression . My son woulden't have made it through his cemo with out this god made plant. I think the goverment should legalize for medical use.

I dont see why it shouldnt be legal because it does work for some people. You could ask this question of many other "legal" drugs like "oxycontin", whick is available to teenagers everywhere and causing adiction poroblems. Should oxycontin be illegal?

Hiya im not about this, yes i agree it is good for the pain and holds the stress a bit better but i have a husband who suffers from chronic migranes, he also researched all of his options.

He eventually turned to pot for medicinal purposes and ended up getting addicted to it, went through a huge stage that we separated due to him not having much patience any more and spending a heap of money.

Now 12 months later he is 3 weeks of it and is suffering horrendous with withdrawals symptoms, the pot of today is laced with so much bad chemicals its dangerous for the body.

Myself i suffer badly with osteoarthritis and a few bulging disc's but i get Reikie and lots on healing, meditate & occasionally take the odd pain killer.

Yes, I am surprised that it has not been legalized before now. The only reason it has not been, is because the government of the United States have not figured out how to tax it.

Marijuana should be legalized. Everyone has mentioned many of the reasons that it should and it would be a great benefit for the country. As pointed out in prior posts it should be regulated and taxed and there should be an age requirement as with liquor. My doctor is filling out the paperwork for me to apply to the medical marijuana program here in New Mexico. She suggested it as an addition to the many pain medications that I am currently taking and feels that it will help me take less of the pills and improve my quality of life. Legalizing pot would also help curb some of the violence associated with smuggling and dealing. All in all, I believe it is a wonderful idea and pray for the day that it becomes a reality.

Well, for one, I believe that marjiuana should be legalized in all 50 states,BUT only for medical purposes ONLY!!!!
My husband suffers daily from severe aching feet, from his nerves in his feet and hands because he is a type 2 diabetic, and has severe aches and pains throughout his body. He takes 2 RX drugs, which are Vicoden 10/350 and then Valium 5 mg.
These RX drugs are 10 times Worse, than Marjuana, and are legal. They are habit forming with severe side affects, and still don't help as well, unless he was given Oxycotin or Percodin. These Rx drugs are killing so many people, and I haven't heard of marjuana killing anyone.
I agree that it can be laced with chemicals, but if the government would totally legalize it for medical purposes, and then put strict restrictions on it, whereas it needs to be grown organically,and/or without any chemicals added or other drugs added to it, then it would add money to the economy, and help alot of states get out of debt, including California, which is in severe debt, and YES, I€ know its already legal there, but if there were restrictions on it, just as cigarettes and alcohol, then it would help alot of people with pain and give some relief.
AND, there could be laws where you are only allowed to be in possession with a certain amount, and cannot drive under the influence of it, just like alcohol.
Something to think about!!!!

I'm am totally opposed to the legalisation of marijuana, I personally smoked marijuana, many years ago and it had no benifent to me on any level I still know poeple who have smoked marijuana fo more than 30 yrs. Firstly they have aged much quicker than most ,they have dental problems they suffer paranoria they isolate themselves ,and I would love for the the teenages of today to see the end result of the long term use of this destructive drug.I have 5 childern all young responsible adults whom are so against drugs, yes they have experimented, but have witnessed the end result. and I'm gratefull for that. There is no safe use of using this drug >It is Addictive

What happened to "Just Say No" and "DARE". If we legalize marijuana we will have more people on drugs and on the road DUI. This would be a step backwards. We should be working towards less drugs in our society not more. Medical options exist already for people in pain.

I live in the UK, London & feel it should be legal in all countries.

It has helped me with pain, confidents and appetite. I feel if you are disciplined not to smoke it all the time & still work, exercise and eat well then you are not doing much harm, same as if you are drinking or smoking cigarettes.

I know of someone with bad arthritis & smoking cannabis has helped her a lot, especially with sleeping.

I do feel there's a lot worse that is going on in the world & feel cannabis helps especially in this time, with stress & helps the mind to relax.

Beviejay said:

I really do not feel it's a good idea to legalize pot because of the fact there is addiction attached to pain relief.

As a recovering person, I would not dare smoke pot to relief my osteoarthritis pain, for fear of relapsing

Perhaps, for a sick person, when given a prescription for a certain amt., pf pot, that might be ok...There's an argument about pain, prescription drugs and prescription pot.

OK, for all the people who said no here is my reply:

Addictive due to being laced/ Addictive?
-It is scientifically proven that it is not addictive! Also nicotine and alcohol are highly addictive, but considered to be decent by social standards. And as for that ladies wacked out husband ‘because it was laced’, well if the government controlled it then it wouldn’t be laced moron, and maybe he just liked pot better then you.

People look older/ paranoid?
-HELLO Alcohol and nicotine also age you! Wrinkles around the face due to the movements of the mouth such as in smoking tobacco. And paranoia because it illegal, you would be paranoid too.

Spending large amount of cash?
-Think, all that cash that is going to drug dealers could be going toward our nation through taxes! Also addictive substances, such as nicotine and alcohol (which are taxed) consume lots of money as well.

Already pain treatments?
- Yes that is true, but do you know how addictive opiates are? There was a freakin war over it between Europe and Asia due to the sales and profits of such a highly addictive substance which can impair and even KILL due to over dose. Case tremors, cold sweats, impaired vision, dulled reaction time. I’ve seen a stoner and I’ve seen an opiate head, I would much rather be a stoner.

More DUI?
- True but a drunk driver kills, a stoned driver misses there exit.

I hope you have enjoyed my post and it has given you a fresh new perspective on pot. If rugs like alcohol and nicotine are legal then so should pot. The demonization of this drug is stupid!

John said:

This debate appears to be pointless and could continue forever. The non drug users will always vote against drugs. The drug users will always vote for drugs. It is liberal verses conservative values. I will always vote against drugs.

There are many persuasive arguments on why America should legalize marijuana, and the reasons are sound, but despite the fact that many millions of Americans have used pot has not translated into real political pressure on the people who can change the laws. One of the problems inhibiting legalization is that people that smoke a glass pipe are not considered serious or mature. It is This stigma that scares many pot users into hiding that they smoke pot. Therefore the Reality of who smokes pot and how much the smoke is very different than it seems. The last three presidents were admitted pot users and by my Understanding the same is probably true of the first three presidents as well. Marijuana Legislation is very serious and has everything with how we define what it means to be American. What credence do we as Americans give the rights of the individual to the pursuit of happiness as well as a right to privacy? In the end it is up to us to be public about our choices and to Voice our opinions to the ones that ultimately decide what the rules are. Every hand written Letter that makes it to a representative is considered to be the voice of a thousand people who did not take the time to write. Send an email, send a letter make a phone call and get counted.

Marijuana ? ?
I think it should be legalized due to the fact that there are people out there using it . Whether they need it or not . It doesn't do much , just gets you high probably . To tell you all the truth I haven't tried it and don't plan to , but there are already pharmacist and doctors giving and writing out prescriptions for people who goes in to see them and goes to pick them up . So why is it so wrong for other people without prescription to have it and sell ? I believe that's what doctors are basically doing , writing the prescriptions , the pharmacist giving it out to them from whom ever they get it from , so what they are doing is exactly the same . It's a business from both side . Even if they don't legalized it , people are still going to have the marijuana . So even though it doesn't get legalized then I think no one should have the rights to do anything to the people who posesses it . I'm sure from before , PEOPLE meaning some people of the law does it and knows people who does it .

it should be fair and just be legalized !

Yes, medical marijuana should be legalized. It just has in my state,New Jersey, but I don't know what the procedure is to get it. I had breast cancer in 2004 and has one breast removed. The Chemotherapy left me with Avascular Necrosis in my hips (femoral tips). This disease stops the blood flow to my hips and only progresses and will eventually lead to hip replacements. There is no cure for it. So basically, my bones are "dead" and feel like I am walking with ground glass in my hip joints. It hurts when I walk, when I sleep, when I sit, all the time. I have to say that I did try some pot last year and it did help tremendously with the pain. Much more than percocet or anything over the counter. So yes, I think it should be legalized. I think this country should stop being so paranoid about it and just do it!
