Q&A: Is Too Much Diet Coke Unhealthy?
A: The battle of diet sodas continues - and there are loads of opinions on this. Here's the truth, based on scientific study. Diet soda CAN be a useful tool. There are no health negatives, but it is your choice, and as with any foods or beverages, moderation is key. If it doesn't agree with you, don't drink it. It's as easy as that. While water is optimal for hydration, or seltzer, many people want something fizzy, without the calories. You don't want to use diet soda to replace a skipped meal, but added to your daily schedule, 20 ounces or so, can be a big help. At 64, your metabolism has slowed somewhat, compared to your 30s, about 5% a decade. So, saving calories from liquids can be a big help. It sounds like you are an occasional user. So, enjoy!!

For the question about diet coke, I have friends that stopped drinking cold drinks all together and they lost weight.
^^What does not drinking cold drinks have to do with losing weight?
In the above article it's stated "there are no health negatives". For the record, drinking ANYTHING with aspartame in it IS a health negative.
They are as follows:
"Adverse reactions and side effects of aspartame include:

blindness in one or both eyes
decreased vision and/or other eye problems such as: blurring, bright flashes, squiggly lines, tunnel vision, decreased night vision
pain in one or both eyes
decreased tears
trouble with contact lenses
bulging eyes
Ear
tinnitus - ringing or buzzing sound
severe intolerance of noise
marked hearing impairment
Neurologic
epileptic seizures
headaches, migraines and (some severe)
dizziness, unsteadiness, both
confusion, memory loss, both
severe drowsiness and sleepiness

pain when swallowing
Skin and Allergies

lip and mouth reactions
hives
aggravated respiratory allergies such as asthma
Endocrine and Metabolic

severe PMS
Other
frequency of voiding and burning during urination
excessive thirst, fluid retention, leg swelling, and bloating
increased susceptibility to infection
Additional Symptoms of Aspartame Toxicity include the most critical symptoms of all
death
irreversible brain damage
birth defects, including mental retardation
peptic ulcers
aspartame addiction and increased craving for sweets
hyperactivity in children
severe depression
aggressive behavior
suicidal tendencies
Aspartame may trigger, mimic, or cause the following illnesses:
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Epstein-Barr
Post-Polio Syndrome
Lyme Disease
Grave’s Disease
Meniere’s Disease
Alzheimer’s Disease
ALS
Epilepsy
Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
EMS
Hypothyroidism
Mercury sensitivity from Amalgam fillings
Fibromyalgia
Lupus
non-Hodgkins
Lymphoma
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
These are not allergies or sensitivities, but diseases and disease syndromes. Aspartame poisoning is commonly misdiagnosed because aspartame symptoms mock textbook ‘disease’ symptoms, such as Grave’s Disease."

If one chooses to use diet soft drinks as a "calorie saver" then I would suggest using a beverage that has "Splenda" as a natural sweetener (derivative of sugar that the body does not recognize thus flushes through your system without processing it or absorbing it).
I'm trying to kick the "aspartame addiction" but I assume there is something in it as in cigarettes that keep me addicted. It should be removed from the market as it is killing people!
Good luck with your weight loss and stay away from the sweet poison!
Someone tried to tell me you are not suppose to drink ice water because it will make the fat turn solid or it freezes it and it will be stored as fat! I think they are full of it! I actually heard recently your body has to warm the liquid up so in turn it burns more calories...so I say drink all the ice cold drinks you want! I love my drinks ice cold, unless it's meant to be hot like cappuccinos or hot cocoa!
hello, i have a question for u my husband drinks alot of Diet Soda's and has had just recently problems with his lower left side, could the Diet Soda's be causing him the pain....especially drinks Diet Coke only and other ones also...thanks if u answer my question back. Lori Holenda
kudos Fioni...thanks for laying it out.
for the author to say "there are no health negatives" is the most retarded thing i have ever heard. This is one of the problems of the net..."MISinformation"
I'm so glad u set the record straight, regarding aspartme....and if the list isn't long enough we can go into calcium leaching, osteoporosis ect
What a TOTALLY irresponsible statement.
